Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is also referred to as deep cleaning and is a two-part, non-surgical procedure that is used to treat advanced gum disease. Scaling involves removing plaque and tartar buildup from your teeth as well as above and below the gumline. Root planing requires reshaping and smoothing out the tooth root so that reattachment will occur. This also makes it harder for an infection to develop in the future.

Laser Periodontal Treatment

Using our Ultradent laser, we can perform laser periodontal treatment that allows for a more precise and comfortable scaling and root planing procedure. We can also use it to perform bacterial reduction so that tooth decay, gum disease, and other common dental issues are largely prevented. The laser’s concentrated beam of light targets only the diseased areas, swiftly removing harmful plaque and tartar while leaving healthy tissues untouched.

Antibiotic Treatment

Often used in combination with scaling and root planing, our antibiotic treatment includes the use of Arestin placed into local deep pockets, or in more severe cases, we make periodontal antibiotic trays. Consisting of medication that is used to eliminate existing bacteria in hard-to-reach areas, the trays are worn so the antibiotic will disperse throughout the gum pockets, preventing bacteria from re-forming over time.
